Offering a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city life, the small mountain town of Idyllwild has all kinds of adventure. Right from hiking and biking to wildlife watching, the variety includes shopping and exploring local cuisine as well!

Hiking

From the multiple hiking trails available in the region, you can hike up to the Tahquitz peak (hard trek) or the Suicide Rock (relatively easier). While both treks need half a day, both are easily accessible from the city center.
If you are looking for a difficult hike, then you must try the San Jacinto summit from Marion Mountain trail that will help you reach on top of a 10,000 feet peak!

Mountain Biking

There are multiple trailheads available in the region that range from beginners to advanced. You can explore the 40 miles of trails on the San Jacinto mountains. If you want some more adventures, then opt for the 200 miles of dirt roads!
Also, if you are looking for more difficult biking trails, explore the Lower Southridge Trail or the Middle Southridge Trail.

Fishing

Head straight to the Lake Fulmor for some great fishing experience. Largemouth bass, Rainbow trout, and Bluegill are the most popular species caught in the region. Go during summers for enjoying some swimming and fishing time!

Wildlife Watching

The San Jacinto Wildlife sanctuary is a great place to enjoy wildlife watching and also have a shot at the shotgun hunting and quail and waterfowl hunting.

The best way to enjoy any place is to relish in some local cuisine. If you are tired of all the hiking and riding, then pick up your car and head straight to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to enjoy some scenic views without having to climb! Just relax in the cable car and have fun.

Kid-friendly Hiking Trails

Unlike other places, Idyllwild offers kid-friendly hiking trails that are great options for a family outing. The Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail is just 2.6-mile long easy hike with beautiful streams and variety of trees for a company while hiking. Dogs can use this trail, however, they need to be kept on leash.
