Whidbey Island is close to Seattle. Popular outdoor activities here include boating, hiking, kayaking, beach combing, camping, mountain climbing, bird watching, biking and fishing. The island has a typically rugged terrain. Whidbey is full of magnificent beaches and hills. The place is also home to some beautiful freshwater lakes and forest trails.

Go Camping at Fort Ebey State Park

The popular park spans 645 acres and many visitors go camping here. You will find many trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking. The shoreline is known for fishing, birdwatching and beachcombing.

The famous park boasts of spectacular views and fantastic camping amenities. Go on the historic Deception Pass Bridge and enjoy the amazing scenic views.

Enjoy the Wildlife at Deception Pass

Take a boat tour here and experience the rich wildlife. Look out for the elusive orcas and other native fauna such as bald eagles, sea otter and blue heron.

Whale Watching

Here you can look out for Whales at high tide. The Gray Whales come via the Saratoga Passage. Ideal time to do this thrilling activity is from late March to early June.

Kayaking

Visitors can go kayaking at the Clinton Ferry landing point in Langley. On offer are single and tandem kayak rentals. Beginners can go for a kayaking tour with an experienced guide.

Hiking

On both sides of the Deception Pass, there are many trails suitable for hiking. Whidbey island boasts of 38 miles of hiking trails. Visitors can choose from forest hikes, beach hikes and prairie hikes.

Biking

The island has ample number of biking trails for the interested folk. You can go biking on sandy beaches, back country trails or rocky cliff side trails.
