Best Time to Visit Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park snuggles between Whitefish and St.Mary. The right season to visit this places is between June and October. During the month of October it snows and many of the trails would be covered with snow.
If you enjoy winter sports such as cross-country skiing then winter is the appropriate time. If you want to hike, bike, fish and camp, then visit in summer. To enjoy the wilderness and solitude, you can backpack and come here anytime.

Things to Do
Hiking is one of the most popular activities here. There are short hiking trails as well as extended backpacking trails. You can plan accordingly. The trail maps include areas such as Lake McDonald, St. Mary, North fork and Many Glacier.
Backcountry camping needs permit during the summer months. A nominal amount is charged upon permit issuance. However, during winter backcountry permits are free. You need to plan the trip and get an advanced reservations. Checkout with the visitor's center regarding the accessibility, campsites, trip itineraries and group size.

Boating permits are issued from June to September for Lake St. Mary, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Lake. For the other lakes Lake McDonald, Bowman and Kintla, it's open from the second Saturday from May till October end. The rules and regulations are enlisted at the visitor centers. Boats propelled by sails, paddles, motor and oars are available.

Biking in Glacier means sharing the roads with the visitors and passenger vehicles. Therefore, safety measures must be taken. The bikers have to lookout for wildlife and are expected to carry bear spray, food and water. Electric bikes are a not allowed on the roads that are closed to motor vehicles.

Guided tours are available. Check with the visitor centers. Some of the tours are boat tours, bus tours, guided hikes, horseback rides and raft tours.
