Summer is the best time to go fishing. There are a lot of people out there with a lot of fishing lines in the water all the time. However, many of them opine that catfish bait recipes are very difficult to make, and hence use baits that are readily available in the market.
The only negative point about homemade bait recipes is that they stink a lot, to the extent that you will have to keep your nose covered all the time. The catfish has a very strong sense of smell. The staunch smell of the bait riles up the catfish and sends them into a hunting frenzy.
Making catfish baits is not a difficult task and neither does it require a lot of preparation. Here, we give you a list of recipes that can easily be cooked at home.

Easy Catfish Bait Recipes

The eyesight of the catfish is very poor, so it forages for food using its extremely powerful sense of smell. So, when you use any of the these recipes, it is important you ensure that the bait smells strong enough to grab their attention.

Bait Recipe # 1

Ingredients:
✦ Old Moldy Cheese 1 pound
✦ Chicken Livers 8 ounces
✦ Cornstarch ½ cup
✦ Baking Soda ½ cup
✦ Cornmeal ¼ cup
✦ Garlic Powder ½ cup
Method:
1. Cut each of the chicken livers into 4 pieces, but do not throw away the blood. Mix it with the cheese.

2. Add cornstarch, baking soda, and cornmeal to the cheese and liver mixture.
3. Now is the time to add garlic powder to the mixture, add water, and make pizza consistency dough with it.

4. Now shape the dough into meatball size balls and place them on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
5. Drizzle chicken blood over the bait balls and let the balls absorb the blood.
6. Then liberally sprinkle garlic powder over all the balls.

7. If you are not going fishing any time soon, then it is advised that you place the bait balls in plastic bags and store them in the refrigerator.

Bait Recipe # 2

Ingredients:
✦ Hog Liver 1
✦ Minced Garlic 1 large jar
✦ Garlic Salt 1 large jar

Method:

1. Cut the liver into small bait size pieces.

2. In a large mixing bowl, add minced garlic to the liver pieces and mix well, so that all the pieces are well-covered with garlic.
3. Let the mixture stand in the refrigerator overnight.

4. Remove it from the refrigerator and mix well again.

5. Sprinkle garlic salt over the entire mixture.
6. Let it stand for a few hours, so that the salt soaks in well into the meat.

7. Add the remaining garlic salt and mix well again.

8. Divide the entire mixture into small bags, which you will carry with yourself, when you go fishing. If you are left with extra mixture, store it in the refrigerator.

Bait Recipe # 3

Ingredients:
✦ Tuna Fish 3 cans
✦ Minced Garlic 1 teaspoon
✦ Cheese ½ stick
Method:
1. In a bowl mix tuna fish, minced garlic, and cheese together.
2. Stir this mixture until it achieves dough consistency.

3. Make small balls out of this mixture and refrigerate them for a few hours, before you go out fishing.
Apart from these recipes, you can also make use of frozen shrimp, shrimp paste, raw fish, stinky cheese, sardines, anchovies, etc., to make baits. Try being creative by coming up with different combinations to make baits. All you will have to ensure is that the baits are stinky enough to attract the catfish.
