After the jump, a skydiver must deploy the parachute when he or she reaches an altitude of 2,500 feet.

While you may have noticed that skydivers go up a bit after the parachute is deployed, it is not so in reality. The deployment of parachute delays the fall and slows down the velocity creating an illusion for onlookers.

Felix Baumgartner holds the record for the highest skydive in the world after he jumped from the stratosphere. He skydived from a height of 128,100 feet on 14 October 2012. On this day, he also broke the sound barrier.
