The first skydive was actually the first-ever parachute jump in the history. André-Jacques Garnerin who invented parachute tested his invention on 22 October 1797 in Paris by leaping off a hydrogen balloon.

The most important skydiving equipment needed is a parachute. These are carefully examined and packed before every jump. A smooth descent to the ground can only be possible with a well-maintained parachute.

After the jump, a skydiver must deploy the parachute when he or she reaches an altitude of 2,500 feet.

While you may have noticed that skydivers go up a bit after the parachute is deployed, it is not so in reality. The deployment of parachute delays the fall and slows down the velocity creating an illusion for onlookers.

Weather plays an important role in a pleasant skydiving experience. The ground should be clear and visible. The dive can feel stressful on windy days as wind speeds can affect the sky diving experience especially while deploying a parachute.

Felix Baumgartner holds the record for the highest skydive in the world after he jumped from the stratosphere. He skydived from a height of 128,100 feet on 14 October 2012. On this day, he also broke the sound barrier.
