Saguaro Lake Camping – A Fun Getaway in the Desert of Arizona

Saguaro Lake was formed by the construction of Stewart Mountain Dam and is the last reservoir built on the Salt River, AZ. This lake is named after the native cactus 'Saguaro', found in abundance in the surrounding desert.

Camping at the Lake

Saguaro Lake's 22 mile shoreline is perfect for camping. Open on all 365 days, the camping grounds here are suitable for tent camping, RV camping, boat camping, day trips and overnight stays.

Boating

People going for Saguaro Lake Camping can bring their own boats. Those who don’t own one can rent a boat from various rentals on the spot.

Water Sports

Apart from boating at the lake, wakesurfing and tubing are the most popular water sports at Saguaro Lake. You can also try kayaking, sailing, jetskiing and fishing.

Swimming

Captain’s Cove is one of the most popular swimming spots on the lake. Another good spot for some shallow water swimming is Camper’s Cove with its 2 small beaches.

Hiking

If you are a nature lover, you will love the picturesque Sonoran Desert surrounding the lake. Butcher Jones Trail, is a popular four-mile hike with minimum elevation changes that goes in and out of many coves.

Fishing

Saguaro Lake in Arizona is quite popular for fishing. People come here to find large mouth bass, crappie, bluegill, but carp, catfish and wallets. There is also an option of fishing for the rainbow trout but it needs Arizona fishing license.

Overnight Stays

Bagley Flat Camp ground is the most popular Overnight Stay option on Lake Saguaro. It has 30 camping sites and can be accessed only by a boat.
Another option for an overnight stay is Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch. This property can be accessed from land and offers more amenities than the ones on the camp site.

Trip Tips to Remember

Life jackets are compulsory for both adults as well as kids planning to swim or try other water activities.
Parking Permits are compulsory and can be purchased as Day Passes or Annual Passes. Parking gets full quickly on weekends and holidays.
Only 2 launch ramps are available at Saguaro Lake Marina.
Making reservations in advance is highly recommended as the place is popular and gets crowded quickly.
